FROM THE FOSTER HOME

If you're looking for: a goofy, energetic cuddle bug, a reason to vacuum daily, a built-in personal trainer, a dog who's never met a stranger he doesn't like (furry or otherwise) — then Walter might just be your perfect match!

Walter is a golden retriever with a heart of gold and a slightly overenthusiastic and loud approach to life. Walter is suspected to have been hit by a car in December and has had four surgeries to repair his pelvis. He has made a great recovery but will require ongoing physiotherapy for the rest of his life. There is also a chance that he may have issues in the future. He still needs daily rehab (about 1.5–2 hours a day) for at least the next two months before he can be let loose in open areas. Managing his energy is a bit of an adventure. But with leashed walks (3x a day, about 20 minutes each), puzzle toys, and some backyard playtime, it’s doable!

Walter is great with other dogs, cool with cats and has yet to meet any kids, but there's a good chance he'll just want to cuddle them. He knows a handful of tricks, including Shake a Paw, Roll Over, Sit, Lay Down, "Up Up," and "Leave it." He’s smart but also has selective obedience when training goes longer than he thinks necessary (classic retriever attitude).

Walter isn’t a fan of being kennelled, but he’s been left alone for 6–7 hours without destroying anything. His ideal family will be committed to keeping up his physio program to help him recover as much as possible. In return, you'll get unconditional love, unlimited cuddles, and a very good boy who just wants to be by your side.
